Telecoms packages are often marketed as simple, all-in-one solutions that suit everyone. In reality, very few homes or businesses actually operate in the same way, and that’s where problems start.
A one-size-fits-all package assumes usage patterns that may not reflect real life. Some customers need high upload speeds for video calls and cloud backups. Others prioritise low latency for remote access or online systems. Some simply need rock-solid reliability rather than headline speed. Bundling everyone into the same package rarely delivers the right outcome.
Business needs vary even more. A small office running cloud accounting and VoIP has very different requirements to a warehouse relying on Wi-Fi scanners, CCTV and remote access. Yet many packages are sold based on speed alone, without any real discussion about how the connection will be used day to day.
Residential customers face a similar issue. Homes with multiple people working or studying remotely, streaming on several devices and running smart technology place far greater demands on their connection than traditional packages were designed for. When performance falls short, the service is often blamed rather than the package itself.
Another weakness of fixed bundles is resilience. Many packages include a single connection with no backup options. When that line fails, everything stops. For businesses especially, this can mean lost productivity and frustrated customers.
The real solution is starting with the question “how do you actually use your connectivity?” and building around that. Sometimes that means higher upload speeds, sometimes a secondary line, sometimes better Wi-Fi, and sometimes simply a more appropriate package rather than a faster one.
Telecoms works best when it’s tailored. A conversation usually delivers far better results than a bundle chosen from a price list.
If you’re unsure whether your current package genuinely suits how you work or live today, it may be worth taking a closer look.
