We’re well into 2026.
For many businesses, the year began with plans, targets and fresh budgets. But connectivity is often something that gets installed… and then quietly ignored until something goes wrong.
Now is a sensible point to pause and ask:
Are your internet and phone systems ready for the rest of the year?
1. Review How You’re Actually Working
Has anything changed since January?
- More remote or hybrid working?
- New starters needing extensions or mobile contracts?
- Greater reliance on cloud software?
- Increased video calls or online transactions?
Even small operational changes can place extra strain on broadband or phone systems.
What was sufficient six months ago may now be tight — particularly if usage has grown gradually rather than suddenly.
2. Check Reliability, Not Just Speed
It’s easy to focus on download speeds. But reliability is usually more important.
Consider:
- Have you experienced unexplained dropouts?
- Is Wi-Fi patchy in certain areas?
- Do calls occasionally break up?
- Is your router more than a few years old?
Often, the solution isn’t a dramatic upgrade — it’s a configuration tweak, equipment refresh or resilience check.
3. Think About Resilience
If your main connection failed tomorrow, what would happen?
- Do you have a proper backup line?
- Is there automatic failover in place?
- Could key staff hotspot temporarily if required?
Many businesses assume they have backup, only to discover it isn’t configured correctly.
A simple test now is far better than a surprise later.
4. Review Contracts and Costs
Mid-year is also a good time to check:
- When do contracts expire?
- Are any services drifting into higher out-of-contract pricing?
- Are you paying for lines or features no longer used?
Telecoms bills should be understandable. If they aren’t, that’s often a sign they need reviewing.
5. Align with Your Plans for Q4
The final quarter is typically busy.
If you expect:
- Seasonal demand increases
- New product launches
- Marketing campaigns
- Additional staff
It’s wise to ensure connectivity is ready before autumn, not during it.
Upgrades and changes are easier to manage in a planned way rather than under pressure.
A Measured, Sensible Approach
This isn’t about chasing the latest technology.
It’s about ensuring what you already have is:
- Fit for purpose
- Reliable
- Fairly priced
- Properly supported
Connectivity now sits at the centre of most businesses. A short, practical review mid-year can prevent unnecessary disruption later.
If you’d like a straightforward look at your broadband, phone systems or mobile setup before the year gathers pace again, I’m always happy to help.
